MODULE: CATEGORYBLITZ

Category Blitz

Category Blitz is verbal hot potato with an AI referee. The system announces a category, picks a random operative to start, and the turn begins rotating around the lobby: on your turn you have exactly 10 seconds to type something that fits. The AI judges every answer live, so "penguin" flies for Animals but your creative stretch gets rejected with an explanation and a 5-point penalty before the turn passes anyway.

Repeating a word someone already used is blocked, running out the clock eliminates you, and the circle tightens until one operative remains to claim the 25-point victory. Rounds are ruthless, hilarious, and rarely last more than a few minutes.

Rules of Engagement

  • 01The AI announces a fresh category and randomly selects the first player.
  • 02On your turn, type an answer that fits the category and submit within 10 seconds.
  • 03The AI judges each answer live. A valid answer passes the turn; an invalid one costs 5 points and passes the turn anyway.
  • 04You cannot repeat any word already used this round; duplicates are rejected on the spot.
  • 05If your 10-second timer expires, you are eliminated and play continues without you.
  • 06The last operative standing wins the round and 25 points.

Strategic Intelligence

  • Stockpile answers while others take their turns; the 10 seconds is for typing, not thinking.
  • Keep answers short and obvious. "Cat" scores exactly as well as "Madagascar hissing cockroach" and types in a fifth of the time.
  • Watch the used-words list constantly; a rejected duplicate wastes seconds you do not have.
  • When unsure, submit anyway. An invalid answer costs 5 points, but a timeout costs the whole game.
  • Track which letters and subcategories are exhausted and steer your mental queue away from them early.

Tactical Suitability

For competitive groups who love Scattergories-style recall but want it faster, meaner, and refereed by someone who cannot be argued with. The 10-second turns keep everyone locked in even when it is not their move, and elimination rounds are short enough that being knocked out first just means heckling from the sidelines for two minutes.

Technical Protocol Assistance

The AI judges every submission live against the category and explains its ruling when it rejects one. No table arguments, no house lawyer.

You lose 5 points and the turn passes to the next player. Only running out of time eliminates you.

No. The round tracks every used word and blocks duplicates immediately, so listen to the answers as closely as you plan your own.

With 10-second turns and eliminations, most rounds finish in under five minutes, which makes back-to-back rematches the default.
