MODULE: CHECKERS

Checkers

Checkers deploys the full 8x8 board with 12 pieces per side and synchronized turns, so two operatives can play a proper match from any two screens with no downloads. Red always opens. Captures are never forced, which keeps the game friendly for casual players, but once you start a jump chain the board holds you to it: the same piece must keep capturing while jumps remain.

Reach the far row to crown a king that moves and captures in both directions, though a capture that crowns your piece ends the chain on the spot. Victory goes to the player who eliminates every enemy piece or leaves the opponent with no legal move, and pays 25 points to the lobby scoreboard.

Rules of Engagement

  • 01Each player commands 12 pieces on the dark squares of an 8x8 board. Red moves first.
  • 02Pieces move diagonally forward one square, or jump diagonally over an adjacent enemy piece to capture it.
  • 03Captures are optional, but once you begin a jump chain the same piece must continue jumping while captures remain.
  • 04A piece that reaches the far row is crowned a king and can move and capture backward as well as forward.
  • 05Being crowned mid-capture ends that jump chain immediately.
  • 06You win by capturing every enemy piece or leaving your opponent with no legal move. The winner earns 25 points.

Strategic Intelligence

  • Keep your back row intact early. Empty home squares are open invitations for enemy kings.
  • Trade pieces when you are ahead in material; every even trade widens your advantage.
  • Because captures are optional here, you can decline poisoned offers, but check why your opponent left a piece hanging before you take it.
  • Advance in connected diagonals so your pieces defend each other, and funnel play toward the edges where jumps are harder to set up against you.
  • Race for the first king. One king harassing loose pieces from behind usually decides the endgame.

Tactical Suitability

For board game fans who want a real head-to-head strategy match without the learning curve of chess. It suits family showdowns, lunch-break duels between coworkers, and long-distance friends keeping a running rivalry, while the rest of the lobby spectates the board live.

Technical Protocol Assistance

Starting a capture is optional in our ruleset. But once you begin a jump chain, that piece must keep capturing while jumps are available.

Reach the far row and your piece is crowned. Kings move and capture diagonally in all four directions. If a capture lands you on the crowning row, the chain ends there.

A player with no legal move loses the match, the same as losing every piece.

Yes. Each player sees the board from their own side, so both of you play "up" the screen.
